One party, the conservatives—and by ‘conservative’ I mean monarchical and unsophisticated, the ones who weren’t educated in the United States—got it into their heads that they could seize power and ‘send a message’ to the US government. But they didn’t understand that the United States didn’t function like the nations they were familiar with. When you’re dealing with a king, if you don’t like his attitude you hit him with a sword until there’s a new king and hope he’s more amenable to your demands. Simple, right?
