In January, I was invited to a conference of journalists and tech corporation employees in Palo Alto to discuss the problem of “fake news,” a hot topic after the election. This event was one of many post-Trump misadventures in which I was invited somewhere fancy as a token “red state journalist who had predicted Trump would win,” leading people who had apparently never read anything I had written to assume I also approved of that outcome.
