“It just seemed like I walked in on...” I scowled at him hard enough to make him drop that line of thought and Xavier laughed. “Okay, there’s no you and Darius,” he agreed quickly. “But you might be doomed if that’s not what you want because I saw the way he was looking at you and Darius always gets what he wants once he sets his mind to it.”
Xavier’s eyes lit with mischief for a moment but then the dare faded out of them, and he shook his head. “It’s a dumb idea.” “Oh come on Rapunzel, let down your hair,” I begged. “I’ve been dragged all the way out here with promises of a race just to be ditched. And you were tasked with making sure I had fun.”
“I haven’t done this in years,” he said. “You’re a bad influence.” “You have no idea,” I agreed. “I can see why Darius likes you.” “Ew, no, stop that,” I said, faking a shudder. “You’re just trying to put me off my game because you know I’m about to win.”
Darius caught my hand and pulled me upright, before throwing his arm around my shoulders as he held his Atlas in front of us and took a picture while pressing a kiss to the top of my head. I couldn’t help but laugh as he took the picture which he instantly sent on to Caleb.
“I sent you a few messages and you don’t seem to have replied. And then I find out you’re off chasing around after one of my friends all night. So what am I supposed to make of that?” Darius was smirking behind Caleb’s back and Max shifted uncomfortably, folding his arms while Seth whimpered.
“Honestly?” Tory asked, cocking an eyebrow at him. “I don’t tend to date guys who are so needy they send me fifteen messages without a response. So if you’re hoping for me to message you back you might wanna tone back the desperate vibe I’m getting. And secondly, I’m not your girlfriend so I don’t have to check with you about where I spend my evenings or who I spend them with.”
But if he wasn’t then there were more than a few things I’d like to have done with him. I thought about the way he’d looked at me when he’d tried to convince me to stay with him last night and my heart started to beat a little faster, my breaths coming a little heavier- “This is your worst attempt yet, sweetheart,” Caleb’s
“You look like you were having an absolutely marvellous set of shenanigans, Your Majesty!” Geraldine gushed, changing tact in an instant. “I didn’t know you’d become so friendly with the sexy Dragon Heir!” “Did you just call Darius Acrux sexy?” Sofia asked in surprise, and I snorted a laugh when Geraldine blushed. “Well, I have eyes!” she said defensively. “That’s not to say he’s the most attractive of the Heirs.”
surface instead. “I dunno. Like she’s trying to work me out. Or maybe she wants to. But then she goes right back to calling me names or standing in opposition to every little thing I do or fucking Caleb...” “What does that have to do with anything?” Lance asked, taking a seat beside me.
I let out a long breath, closing my eyes for a moment as the Dragon finally fell back asleep within my chest. Roxy’s green eyes found me in the dark, the way they’d widened slightly as my fingers gripped her neck. The flicker of her pulse against my thumb, which gave away exactly what she thought of me in that moment. She thought I might kill her. She’d believed it. I’d wanted her to fear me and succeeded in painting myself as a monster in her eyes. So why did that suddenly seem like a bad thing?
Orion nodded, scraping a hand over his face then moving to sit behind his desk. He opened the lowest drawer and took out the predictable bottle of bourbon. Tears suddenly pinched my eyes. Tears of rage, but mostly of sadness that he needed that stuff. That he thought it would help whatever it was he was trying not to feel. I stormed over, snatching it from the desk before he could pour a glass. “Deal with your emotions.” I pointed the bottle at him. “Drowning them doesn’t make them go away.”
“Maybe I don’t want to let you go.” His mouth grazed my temple, then he drew away and headed off down the path, my heart beating frantically as I watched him leave. I didn’t like to admit it, but I was starting to accept that Seth had feelings for me. And for some reason that terrified me far more than him hating me ever could.
“Petty?” Darius growled. “Well, I’d sooner that than be a pathetic little puppy, begging for every moment of her time. You literally let her run away from you rather than just taking what you want from her. What kind of Vampire are you?” “The kind who’s overpowered you more than once,” Caleb hissed, his fangs lengthening. I backed up a little as the air between them crackled with the promise of violence. “Wanna put that to the test?” Darius baited.
“Vegas gonna take you down! Vegas coming for the crown! Watch out Heirs you’d better bow! Vegas gonna take you down!” I looked around, my eyes widening in surprise at the chant which was taking place and my gaze fell on Geraldine in full on conductor mode while the Ass Club all screamed their lungs out in support of
