“For not even batting an eye. For actually thinking there’s something good about this.” Xavier leaned back and I looked up into the eyes of someone who was completely broken.
“Xavier,” I breathed, laying a hand on his cheek for a moment, unsure how to even begin to respond to the pain in his eyes. He pressed a kiss to the top of my head and released me, hurrying away up the stairs before I could say anything else.
