A DiscipleTrip is the unstructured, undefined, adventure-filled walk that occurs when Jesus is at the center of life and relationships.
“I made my way down the hill this morning and took a coal from Righteous’ fire in order to start ours this morning. I guess you could say that it’s simply a metaphor that speaks to what Jesus has done in my heart as a result of meeting you guys.”
Communitas is community with purpose.
I believe it is the obligation of every follower of Christ to “keep their own tank full” rather than to rely on another person to fill their tank. Those seeking to be guided by another should be responsible for pressing into the relationship, not vice versa.
There have been so many times, in my experience in disciple-making, that I have been used as a flotation device. This process rarely ends well and can damage both myself and the person I am attempting to disciple. I am learning to hold my breath, dip under water, and attempt to offer the life saver instead. Jesus is the saving mechanism, not me. I make for a very poor flotation device.
The results of our disciple-making efforts aren’t contingent upon our proficiencies, gifts, or winsome personalities. Our Father is doing, and will continue to do, the work. Sometimes, all we need to do is to show up with a willingness to obey whatever God leads us to do.
