“How can I be late, Alidyr, if the meeting doesn’t start until I arrive?”

The words were unmistakably those of the elves, with the exception of two words: Elder Book. “They’re after the Elder Book! We have to get to Master Tibit!” Gideon noticed the intruder’s attention immediately fall on him. “Run!” They ran for the only door that hadn’t been reduced to splinters. The intruder barked another order between the slashing of his sword. Gideon looked back to see one of the archers break away from the fighting and make for the same door they had escaped through. Gideon aimed his staff over his shoulder and thought of the ancient word for earth, filling the spell with the urge to explode.
