As we took off, I craned my head and tried to make out the shadow in the basement, but soon it faded both from my gaze and from my thoughts.

I didn’t need to look at the television news broadcast playing above the pie case. I already knew whose photos they were showing.

There were people who hurt others thinking others would hurt them. And then there were people who hurt others knowing others wouldn’t hurt them back. The world was all comprised of people just causing
