Nobody follows the exact paths they expect to take in life.
Habits are known wins, and a distressed mind wants and needs nothing more than a known win. If you don’t have an internal foundation of good habits, then you will seek the only thing within your reach—bad habits.
habits are the most leveraged aspect of our lives, and we get to choose them.
The more you do something, the more it defines you.
Doing nothing is somehow the most stressful lifestyle.
Daily small commitments are considered by many to be the most effective habit formation strategy,
to be successful in life in the short term and long term, you must be able to thrive in a fluid, ever-changing environment. It’s a shame, then, that we don’t even try.
For us to adapt successfully, we must first choose to be adaptable.
With the freedom to shift habits up, down, or even sideways, winning streaks can extend for years, and you can make the most out of any situation. You’ll never feel trapped, because your habits will change with you and the circumstances you face.
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” ― Benjamin Franklin
Discipline is driven by external punishment and reward. Self-discipline, however, is driven by freedom and practice.
Discipline is what authority figures do to us to keep us in check. Self-discipline is what we do for ourselves to gain control of our lives and become the people we desire to be.6
Freedom is the only path worth considering, because if freedom is innately more important to us than nearly anything else, we can’t afford to sacrifice it for the sake of our goals.
Freedom scares us because it amplifies who we really are.
By embracing flexibility, you will find more ways to succeed through improvisation.
