Beyond health, walking brings many other benefits for brain, body and behaviour, which we’ll go on to explore throughout this book. We’ll also discuss the many poets and writers who have written eloquently on the wonders of walking as a spur to mood, creativity and thinking. Writers are amongst the best at recognising walking’s essential and intrinsic virtues and rewards. The poet I return to, time and again, is T. S. Eliot.
