It is Ana’s longing that propels her on her tumultuous journey, and when she loses hope, her aunt Yaltha tells her, “Return to your longing. It will teach you everything.”
Everything you need to know about Yaltha is summed up in these two lines from the novel: “Her mind was an immense feral country that spilled its borders. She trespassed everywhere.” Those are perhaps my favorite sentences in the entire novel.
