In the spring of 1986, Reagan’s new national security advisor, John Poindexter, approved the diversion of $12 million from the Iran arms sales to the Contras. In testimony before eleven members of the House Intelligence Committee that summer, North misled lawmakers as well, and denied raising money for the Contras.
