Cash: In emergency situations, cash is king, especially if there is a power outage rendering your credit card and debit cards useless. Although money may be tight, try putting away what you think you’ll need for a few days. 2. Credit card: Set aside at least one credit card with a zero balance to be used solely for an emergency. This way you have plenty of credit available to use. Recommended Supplies: Flashlight with extra batteries Passports or a photocopy Change of clothing Non-perishable food, such as canned food, power bars, and nuts Bottled water and canteens to fill with water First aid kit Utility knife Cell phone charger Matches/lighter Extra clothes (warm for colder climates) For those things you may not be able to leave stored in your go-bag, such as medication, consider writing them down and pinning the list to the outside of your bag. This way, in an emergency, you don’t have to rely on your memory. Just grab the list, locate the items, and go.
