Building trust actually creates a chemical change in the body. When someone trusts you, a hormone in their body called oxytocin is released. Oxytocin is produced in the hypothalamus and interacts with receptors in the amygdala, which are responsible for our bonding behaviors, such as recognizing people socially, creating group memories, and building relationships.
