Our former self and the natural bent to our fleshly desires prevent us from reaching perfection this side of heaven. But each day we draw closer to Christ, deepening our understanding of and our relationship with Him, we become more and more like Him. This process is called sanctification. This theme recurs throughout Scripture, using terms such as consecrated, set apart, and holy. While justification is a one-time event at salvation (a change of status before God), sanctification is progressive.
