Sometimes exit interviews are simple multiple choice surveys, so don’t accept vague, inactionable answers like “better opportunity.” Of course, if it was a worse opportunity, they wouldn’t have taken it! Find out why they believe some other company is offering a better opportunity. Is it something simple like pay? An ineffective manager? Or something more cultural: Are developers given opportunities to shine and grow?
