Constructive criticism isn’t about tearing people down; it’s about helping them get better. It’s actually a form of respect. And it’s how people learn. Making meetings open to the whole company means that sometimes an engineer gets skewered in front of an audience. That might make the experience even more unpleasant, but on the other hand, knowing that a lot of people might see your performance does create an added incentive to get your act together before you show up.
