The stars were bright. “Because you can look at the person and just know they’re someone special. That you would do anything to see them smile. Sex is good for a lot of people, but not for others. And just because they feel that way doesn’t mean they don’t love like everyone else.”
You know what’s better?” “What?” “Lying on the floor under a Christmas tree with someone and looking up at the lights. Or going to the park and sitting on a blanket and reading comics to each other. Or watching a movie you’ve seen a billion times before and quoting the lines back and forth. It’s that feeling, right? That feeling of knowing you’re not alone because the person you’re with doesn’t want to be anywhere else but where they are.”
“How can that not bother you? That people make assumptions about you that aren’t true?” “Because people have made assumptions about me my entire life.”
I don’t care what those people think. I do the things I do because they make me happy. I am who I am because this is the person I want to be. It took me a long time to get this way, and I don’t let little things like people assuming things on the Internet get to me.”
I think it takes a lot of courage to say the scary things that no one likes to talk about because they think it makes them look weak. That’s the cool thing about it. When you stand up for yourself, you never know if you’re standing up for someone who isn’t ready to do the same. And you might be giving them the courage to do it somewhere down the road. And when they do, they help someone else. And it keeps on going down the line.
Sometimes you need to hide away from the rest of the world. And it’s okay to do that, just as long as you don’t forget the world is waiting for you when you’re done.”
Because all the jokes and fancy tricks and pretty words mean nothing if there’s no heart behind it. You have to believe in yourself and what you’re saying. Love is scary. It’s intimidating and can rip our hearts from our chests. But it is also kind and warm and makes this crazy thing we call life that much brighter. You can do this. I know you can. Because love is important, and you deserve to be loved.
The world is a big place, and sometimes you just want to feel small. Doesn’t mean you break easy.”
Life stings. It can bite and claw and kick you when you’re down. It can lift you up in celebration and clutch your heart until you think it’ll rip from your chest. It’s glorious and wonderful and oh so devastating. We sing and we laugh and we dance until we can move no more, and it’s all worth it. Every single piece. Every single part. Because life isn’t made up of the breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away.
