He supplants only for the purpose of giving life, not taking it. He reminds us at strategic times that nothing and no one can sustain us but Him. Jesus wants to shift your securities so that you will abide in Him alone, not in other people, places, and things. He knows that those things are bereft of the power to anchor, oxygenate, and animate you the way His Spirit does.
