With his greed dawned a new era of bloodshed, prejudice, addiction, and depravity. Welcome to the Twisted Kingdoms.
Levka’s lip curled, and he averted his eyes, before stalking away toward the training grounds, leaving Tempest with her three worrying uncles. She stared after him in puzzlement. That was odd.
“Mind how you hold her,” a deep voice admonished. Tempest snuggled into the blankets and sighed at the pleasant, spicy scent tickling her nose. The bed vibrated beneath her cheek, chuckling.
“Pyre told me he liked you as soon as he met you. I think you’ll change everything.”
“And it’s power hungry zealots like you who keep that monster in power,” Nyx whispered. “What a surprise you are, little Hound.”
“I didn’t mean to make you feel unsafe,” he growled.
“Having thoughts is not a crime,” he pointed out, wagging a fake disapproving finger at Tempest as he did so.
Pyre cocked his head to one side. Like a fox, Tempest had worked out rather quickly, when she wondered why he did it so often.
“Fox!” the boy cried, delighted, as Pyre ruffled his braided hair and tossed him up onto his shoulders as if he weighed nothing at all. “You have not played with me for days and weeks and months and—”
His long fingers wrapped around her wrist and pulled her hand away from his mouth, but not before nipping one fingertip.
“I… I don’t see why not,” Pyre murmured, his gaze scrutinizing her.
And it came back to his Hound. His.
His own night shirt. He glanced away to give her some privacy, feeling uncomfortable with his satisfaction that she was wearing his clothing.
He bent his neck and sniffed at her throat, a husky groan reverberating in his chest. “Oh, luv, what a web you’ve been caught in.”
Tempest pulled her weapon back and wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him.
“Lion-Killer. Goddess of Little Fawns. Lady Hound. You have much to lose.”
“My father is okay,” he said tightly. “I do not hate you.”
“I knew he wouldn’t be able to resist her appeal.”
“Then it’s a good thing those two are one and the same.”
