she found herself wanting to kiss the broad curve of his nose. In a purely abstract manner, of course. In reality, Dani would never do something so pointless. Faces were for sitting on, not for kissing.
A sunrise threatened in Dani’s chest, but she shoved it down, barely wincing when the heat stung her palms.
so no, he was not in love with her. He just really wanted to sleep with her, and hold her hand, and keep her fed and watered while she worked late into the night, and sometimes he wondered what shampoo she used and how he could make all his pillows smell just like it, and he’d better not say any of this out loud because he didn’t think it would help his case.
then he bumped their noses together, and her entire middle folded in half before melting everywhere like butter.
Because feelings had wings, but Dani didn’t, and she wasn’t about to let herself chase a tiny bird clean off a cliff.
“And when are you going to find yourself a nice girl or boy or otherwise categorized individual to shower you with lifelong affection?”
“Wow,” he said. “You look . . .” “Aggressively sexy and mildly terrifying?” He paused. “Yeah, actually.” “Thank you.”
so I sort of need to impress her or I might die.”
“Want me to come?” “No,” she said instantly. But then, just as quickly, she looked up at him and blurted, “Would you? Why would you? You wouldn’t. Would you?” Well. That was interesting.
All right from Zaf made her twinkle inside as if he’d made a night sky of her.
There was a sorry little hollow in the space between her stomach and her ribs, and in that hollow lived a very sad gnome who was greatly displeased that Zaf struggled this way, but glad he hadn’t been alone this time.
