I was melting in it—in the depth of his tone, the grittiness that pushed through each syllable, and how all of it was wrapped in the most delicious accent.
“I should have known,” he said, his beautiful navy gaze holding mine so steadily, “kissing you once would never be enough.”
“People disappear when there’s magic involved.” He paused, his gaze reaching into my chest. “But I’m not going anywhere.”
“Remember something, Chloe”—his lips pressed into the top of my head—“I will fix anything for you; you just have to come to me.”
“Sometimes, you have to leave for a while to remember why you fell in love in the first place.”
Even if it hurts. Even if it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do, you have to stop.”
And in this moment, I knew I was looking at the man I never stopped loving.
It was love. And in that moment, I knew without a doubt in my mind that I couldn’t hurt this man.
“Because even if it hurts … you’re going to come back to me, and we’re going to start making plans for our future.”
She’d once told me she hoped the hurt would finally go away. After watching her leave me twice, I didn’t think it would. And, damn it, sweet girl, it never did.
