There is a seasonality to the stock market that we should not ignore. Although the 2 most famous stock market crashes both occurred in October (1929 and 1987), September has historically been the weakest month for the stock market. Average historical returns for June and August are also negative. This has led to the famous expression "Sell in May and go away."
