Skripal was a former Russian spy. He and his daughter had been poisoned by Novichok, a chemical weapon developed by scientists in the Soviet Union. They barely survived. Two Russian men were later charged with attempting to kill the Skripals by putting Novichok on the front door of Sergei’s house in Salisbury. This was attempted murder by Russia on foreign soil, which is unthinkable for a country to do.
