Getting technology wrong can be catastrophic. Failure to understand the physical phenomena governing a technology can result in erroneous and potentially dangerous conclusions. Not understanding the operational context within which the technology will be employed can also lead to catastrophic outcomes. Finally, inadequate design specifications can result in technologies that lack the resiliency to operate outside of the narrow operational envelopes for which they have been designed and built. Indeed, history provides numerous examples of getting it wrong.
