Mendez later described how police and detectives were summoned to the hospital ward. She was forced to sign papers, and a nurse held the fetus to her face. “Kiss him,” she recounted being told by the nurse. “You have killed him.” Her boyfriend’s family held a funeral for the fetus, and Mendez was required to attend.
