Andrew noted her immaculately-cut day dress, white Indian muslin dotted with small green flowers and bordered with spooling filigree.
mmm, I doubt that. Probably more like, "Andrew did a double at the sight of her in a pretty green dress." Another book falls victim to uncharacteristic fashion detailing from the male POV.
Maybe this was why his Scottish forebears chose to toss heavy stones and logs around. With no English around to pummel, they resorted to whatever they had on hand.
Andrew chose not to reply. He felt no compunction to defend his skills as a manager and administrator. His business ventures over the years had proved his capabilities there.
“Actions have consequences, Jane.” “Yes, but you can choose how far those consequences rage, Andrew.”
Jane had never understood love until that very instant. She had never realized how thoroughly it crystallized the important facets of life, blowing away all the unnecessary chaff.
Only then did Jane learn of Peter’s fate. After much discussion and letters from their friends—Alex and Ewan—the men had agreed on penance for Peter. He would return to the New Hebrides and devote five years to caring for the villagers, assisting however he could to rebuild the island and help it prosper. “Peter will face, first-hand, the consequences of his actions and learn to be responsible for others,” Andrew had explained. “It is a fair compromise.”
Jaime liked this
“Och, Peter accepted responsibility for his mistakes. It’s much easier to extend clemency tae a repentant man.”
