Like other leadership tools, a vision or strategy document is a solution to a specific set of problems, and it’s not always useful. If your team is aligned and doing good work, time spent writing these probably won’t be too valuable. However, if your team is struggling to align with stakeholders, or if you’re struggling to lead a cohesive organization, these documents are exceptionally useful, fairly quick to write as you gain practice, and low risk (at worst, they get ignored).
