I’m the kind of person who would rather get my hopes up really high and watch them get dashed to pieces than wisely keep my expectations at bay and hope they are exceeded. This quality has made me a needy and theatrical friend, but has given me a spectacularly dramatic emotional life.
Elizabeth
Nope. Not me. I keep my expectations reasonably low, but not low enough to except garbage. Keep your expectations low, and you will almost always be pleased with the results. It’s usually worked out in my favor. In circumstances I can control and have other options. When relying on other people? Eh, it’s a toss-up.

I simply regard romantic comedies as a subgenre of sci-fi, in which the world created therein has different rules than my regular human world. Then I just lap it up. There is no difference between Ripley from Alien and any Katherine Heigl character.
Elizabeth
🤣🤣🤣 This made sense. Completely.

When I said something even a little bit funny, Amy cackled warmly. (This sounds weird, but that’s the best way I know to describe Amy Poehler’s laugh: a warm, intoxicating cackle.)
Elizabeth
I share this line with my husband. Because yeah, it does sound weird. And he pulled up a YouTube video - “Amy Poehler’s Laugh Tribute.” Really, this is the best description. A warm cackle. And we couldn’t help but laugh along with the video because her laugh truly is infectious.

In real life, shouldn’t a wedding be an awesome party you throw with your great pal, in the presence of a bunch of your other friends? A great day, for sure, but not the beginning and certainly not the end of your friendship with a person you can’t wait to talk about gardening with for the next forty years.

Maybe the point is that any marriage is work, but you may as well pick work that you like.
Elizabeth
My marriage to Andy is work I like. It’s seamless.
