Manafort was also in touch with his business partner,” Rick Gates, who after Manafort resigns remains on the campaign but “transition[s] to become [campaign] liaison with the Republican National Committee,” according to NBC News; post-inauguration, Gates will come to be regarded as a “White House insider.”
