The Trump administration, seeking to quell outrage over the kidnapping and execution of a U.S. resident, lights upon a strategy that would, in effect, ease the pressure on MBS by replicating the Saudi crown prince’s crime: Trump tries to find a way to offer Pittsburgh resident Fethullah Gulen to the Turks for extradition and execution in exchange for the Turkish government letting MBS off the hook for Khashoggi’s murder. Per NBC News, “Trump administration officials … asked federal law enforcement agencies to examine legal ways of removing exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen in an attempt to persuade Erdogan to ease pressure on the Saudi government.”
