Our family vacations to the Great Smoky Mountains involved visiting a bunch of balds. I didn’t really mind. After a couple of days in Pigeon Forge, home of hillbilly mini golf, hillbilly laser tag, and hillbilly bumper cars, a bare grass hillside started to seem positively restful.
