Sometimes we ask a child in Sunday school, “What did Jesus do for you?” And the child will say, “He died on the cross for my sin,” and that’s true. But had Jesus just come down from heaven on Good Friday, gone to Golgotha, taken your sin upon Himself, and paid the price before a holy God, would that have been enough to redeem you? The answer is no. That would have been enough to take away your guilt and remove your punishment, but it wouldn’t supply you with the righteousness that God requires from every human being.
