The word reverend is not used for ministers because it is never used in connection with a man in the Bible. This title appears only once in the Bible and there it is a reference to God. “holy and reverend is his name” (Psalm 111:9) The Bible commands to call no man father. “And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.” (Matthew 23:9)
