Many leaders in 1932 believed that with reserved seats for Dalits under the Poona Pact, untouchability would become a thing of the past in the next twenty years. Ambedkar, who grew up Dalit and had faced upper-caste rejection and discrimination at every step of his political career, had no such faith.
