On November 3, 1986, eight months after Palme’s death, the Iran-Contra Affair was revealed and shook the US for the entirety of 1987. An important part of the arrangement, which didn’t receive very much attention but was described in detail in van Vuuren’s book, was the export of oil from Iran to South Africa.
