Today, I prefer to write and say, “I am autistic,” or “I am Aspie,” when referring to myself, versus “a person with autism/Aspergers.” Primarily because I don’t have Aspergers—rather, I am Aspie. Aspergers is innately who I am as an individual and not some tagline, like a disease (people first versus condition/diagnosis first).
