Breathe. Recalibrate. Deliver.
Break points are about going the extra mile, clambering over obstacles – even while travelling in what seems like the wrong direction – and facing down negatives to achieve your ambitions. A break point is a moment you decide nothing will stand between you and your goal; a moment you decide to step out of your comfort zone in order to move forward and grow as a person; a moment you refuse to accept your self-imposed limits and go beyond what you thought you were capable of.
But by daring to step out of your comfort zone, you might be creating opportunities to make life better.
I refused to accept the limits imposed on me by others.
We’d go to a car park, sneak up on people necking in the back seat, chuck stones at the windows, wait for the guy to come out, point the shotgun at him and fire it over his head. There were flames coming out of the barrel and these big men would start shrieking, jump straight back into their cars and drive off at 100mph.

Seeing other people push themselves to the limit and achieve outlandish things is horrible for some people. They know, often deep inside, that if they really, really tried, they could do what you’re doing. But there’s something stopping them from taking that first step. Once you’ve done that, the other foot naturally follows.
The majority prefer to take the well-trodden path, rather than the path less travelled, because taking the path less travelled means having to hack your way through. That’s a difficult thing to do – or at least it seems difficult, when you’re standing staring at the overgrowth and you don’t even have a machete.
Some people need to know exactly what their future will be and become lost in society’s perception of what happiness is supposed to look like. Owning nice houses and expensive cars and watches is a way of justifying their existence. But how many times does cooking in your 50-grand kitchen, climbing into your 100-grand Porsche or looking at your 10-grand Rolex watch actually make you happy? For the first week, maybe? After that, not much.
Everyone is beset by fear and negativity. It’s fear and negativity that has kept us alive since the dawn of time. All of us are living in the repeat cycle of yesterday, our minds tailored to a survival pattern. That means doing the same today as we did yesterday and every day before that, because that’s what has kept us alive until now. It doesn’t matter if we’ve been sad and unfulfilled for as long as we can remember, all we focus on is the fact that we’re still here. the reason people get stuck in a rut is because they don’t think. And if they do think, often the conclusion they come to is, ‘It’s only thirty years until I retire, I might as well settle with what I’ve got. Stay in as long as I can and get extended service. That would be the easiest thing to do…’.
Will it hard enough, see it in enough detail, invest enough emotion in it, and it will happen.
If you visualise what you want, you will make decisions and take actions that bring you closer to that goal, even if some of those decisions and actions will be a result of subconscious thinking. If you’re a negative person, you will get negative outcomes. If you’re a positive person, you will get positive outcomes. It’s a choice we make.
‘I am willing to accept change, and as difficult as it may seem, I know it will lead to bigger and better things.’
So many people don’t focus on the things they want in life. They don’t have a plan, because they don’t have any goals. And if you don’t have any goals or a plan, you lack any drive, which can lead to mental health issues.
The fact that so many people never find out who they really are explains why they spend their lives doing the wrong things, and spending your life doing things that don’t suit your true personality can lead to serious frustration, anger issues and mental illness.
You’ve got to keep moving and keep progressing. Slowing down or stopping will mean you keep flopping around in that repeat cycle of yesterday, like an old jumper on a slow spin in a washing machine. But if you maintain momentum, you will eventually be thrown out of that cycle. You might have to cross some negative ground to reach your goal, but you will reach your goal eventually. And when that happens, your head will be a more pleasant place.
I don’t believe in regrets. It’s a well-worn cliché, but it’s the journey, however uncomfortable, that provides the growth. That’s where the worthwhile stuff happens. Traumatic childhoods, failed relationships, disillusionment with work, all of that tough stuff provides lessons to learn from. That doesn’t necessarily mean life gets easier, but it should get better.
I don’t believe in short-term wins that don’t establish long-term benefits.
I sometimes hear people opine that they haven’t stumbled across their calling. But not many people do. You need to want to change. You need to set goals and visualise. That will smooth the path to a better future.
