Jewish Combat Organization (Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa, or ŻOB). A World War Two Jewish resistance movement under the command of Mordechaj Anielewicz and, following Anielewicz’s suicide, Marek Edelman (1919-2009). The ŻOB, numbering only in the hundreds, was the main force organizing the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Before that it carried out a number of assassinations, assassination attempts, and other resistance activities in the ghetto. Edelman survived the war and became a prominent cardiologist and political activist.
