Picture Isaac carrying the bundle of wood for the sacrifice on his shoulder just as Jesus, in obedience to God the Father, carried the wooden cross
he went along obediently. Isaac, like Jesus, was prepared to be obedient unto death.
What Abraham was prophetically referring to was the fact that God was going to provide Himself, in the form of Jesus, as the Lamb without spot or blemish, to be slain for the sins of the world!
the slaying of all first-born males, both man and animal.
It wasn’t the fact that they were Israelites that saved them but that the blood of an innocent lamb was applied to their door posts and door frames,
only blood could save.
It’s a fore-shadowing of His blood applied to the door posts of our hearts when we accept Him,
God will end up giving these commandments three different times.
first time is in Exodus 19-24.
since the fall of Adam, His holiness made Him distance Himself from mankind.
second time is in Exodus 31.
speaks of Jesus who came as a tangible man, to be handled and touched. He was the very WORD made flesh
third time is in Exodus 34
When he comes down the mountain this time, his face shines from being in the presence of God. This is a foreshadowing of the Holy Spirit and the future covenant of grace,
priesthood involved applying the blood of the sacrificed animal directly to the tip of the priest’s right ear, signifying his ability to hear God’s voice; upon the right thumb, signifying his obedience in serving God; and upon the big toe of the right foot, signifying he would walk in God’s ways. The rest of the blood, along with the anointing oil, was sprinkled over their garments and on the altar.
in the Old Testament, leprosy was symbolic of sin.
sin separates us from God and others.
just as leprosy was disfiguring, so sin disfigures a life,
leprosy, it changed the dynamics of that entire family.
sin can be contagious when we hang out with the wrong crowd, fill our mind with wrong books, TV programs, movies, music, video games, because they can all produce an inclination toward sin.
In the ritual cleansing of a leper, the blood of an animal was applied in exactly the same manner as blood was applied during the consecration of a priest:
these same places were also anointed with oil,
In the New Testament, oil is representative of the Holy Spirit.
to atone for the sins of the nation of Israel, the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant stood, and poured lamb’s blood over the mercy seat.
small bells were sewn around the skirt of the High Priest’s garment and a rope tied around his ankle. As long as those outside could hear the bells jingling while the High Priest moved around performing his duty, they knew he was alive.
the cleansing of sin to be a very bloody and violent act.
God’s requirement was that innocent blood had to be shed for the remission of sins,
without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins!
God Himself would provide that innocent blood, that it would be His blood.
all men are tainted by sin.
What Jesus was saying was that if we accepted the shedding of His blood as our sin sacrifice, we could pass from spiritual death into spiritual life.
no accident that He was born in Bethlehem, which, in Hebrew, means House of Bread.
It’s His Word that sustains, guides, and heals us. It’s His Word that changes us.
Jesus’ blood was a once and for all perfect sacrifice. It covered all our sins and became the basis for the new contract between God and man.
At the exact time the priests were offering the first lamb of the day, which was the third hour or 9 a.m., Jesus was crucified.
hung on the cross six hours, during the very six hours when people brought their personal sacrifices to the Temple.
the exact time when the priests offered the second and last lamb of the day, which was the ninth hour or 3 p.m., Jesus died.
place called the tower of Edar which literally means the tower of the flock.
it was here that the flock of lambs for the Temple sacrifices were born, raised and tended.
it was to these very shepherds that the angel appeared, annou...
