A proper learning objective does not contain the word understand. Many EHS professionals have tried to argue this point, but trust this old ninja. Accept the fact that education professionals do not want you to use the word understand in your LOs and move on.

Right out of university, I was teaching first aid/CPR to state employees. My boss was wise enough to tell me that our department had the highest illiteracy rate in the state and that many of our fine, hardworking employees could not read the test. He shared with me a tip that has lasted a lifetime.
