The liberal idea of community is not the traditional one. Where conservatives believe in the renewal of traditional community, liberals believe as well in the flight from family and tradition into new kinds of communal order, which is why utopian communities and, for that matter, Bohemian neighborhoods have played such a large role in liberal history.
