Questions about the applicability of the theory of general relativity arise, however, for extremely small subatomic and quantum-level phenomena. In the subatomic realm (10−12 cm or smaller), strange phenomena can occur, such as light or electrons acting like both waves and particles at the same time. Nondeterministic fluctuations in energy can occur at that scale as well.
