Failure to meet the demands of the time pressure is their failure, which means that they are failures, themselves. The existential weight of that becomes too much to bear. There is a fair amount of ego in that perspective. To think that the trials and tribulations of a complex build, whether in a model shop or on a commercial film set or in a disaster zone, reflect wholly on you as a maker or as a person is a bit much, no?
Like being more worried about how to dress for an interview than how to answer the questions you’ll be asked, each imagines that the magic lies somewhere in the approach to the act of making, as opposed to the making itself.
