As we consider Jesus’ battle with the demon in the synagogue, we might be tempted to conclude that it has little application today. After all, most of us live in post-Christianized civilizations where the prevalence of demon possession is marginal. We don’t typically run into demon-possessed individuals when we enter the bars downtown, let alone the churches. So how does this story apply to Sabbath-keeping?
