Life is never simple. I’d say “when Faerie is involved,” but I don’t think I need to. Life is never simple, period. All we can do is hang on and hope for the best.

“Sometimes you need to take peoples’ minds off their problems if you want those problems to resolve themselves,” said Marcia. “Focusing on things can make them worse.” “Not all problems go away if you ignore them. Most don’t.” “No, but not all problems can be fixed. Sometimes you have to wait until the situation changes.”
When Simon transformed me into a fish, he’d gone all the way, leaving me without hands or arms or any way to communicate. Even here, silenced by the sea, I could gesture to get my point across. Quentin, at least, would recognize what it meant if I showed him my middle fingers.
“I mostly know Dianda as my punchy friend who sometimes helps me out of nasty scrapes,” I said. “We don’t hang out, we don’t talk about our feelings, we don’t braid each other’s hair. But I know her well enough to know her family is the most important thing in the world to her. She wouldn’t want you to be fighting right now. Not each other, anyway. This is Dianda we’re talking about: she’d absolutely want you to be fighting everyone else.”
