I nodded. “I’m the sheriff of an area about a half an hour from here. I met a friend tonight to discuss a case we’ve been working on involving both our jurisdictions.” Derek’s eyes twinkled. “If you do your job half as well as you wear that uniform, I bet you’re amazing.” I choked on my beer and Derek’s cheeks turned red. “Oh my god, I have no idea where that came from!” he gasped, his hand covering his mouth in surprise.
