“That was three years ago for me.”
How long has it been here?”
“Uh, about ten days or so?”
once I’d arrived at Caora, I wasn’t permitted to leave until I could prove my powers had been mastered.
Light sparked from the ring he was twisting, spreading out rapidly to encase his whole body, and when it faded, he was gone. In his place a large black crow perched on the veranda railing and cawed at us. Around its left leg was that same ring Wesley had just been fiddling with.
Traditionally, my people were spies, which kind of suits my personality,
Bridget needs to die. None of this will end until she is finished.
There are only two ways a Ban Dia can be killed—at the hand of her dianoch or by the hand of a direct relation, daughter to mother or mother to daughter.
I doubted any of the others had caught on to it, but I knew his little kink was in watching. Maybe when this was all over, or at least when things calmed down a bit... we could have some fun.
I pulled a fine-tipped marker from my pocket and doodled a couple of runes on my right arm to clear some of my old ink.
I wanted some clean skin to give myself a fox. No reason why.
Individually we are strong, but together we’re indestructible.”
When I looked back, the River I knew was gone. In his place stood an enormous, snow-white wolf with River’s beautiful, golden eyes.
Unlike when Cole and Vali changed into dragon form, though, there was no trace of the River I knew in this beast’s eyes,
Instead, he shifted again into something else. His snow-white coat shuddered once and turned completely ink black. His form increased in size until he stood towering over me, and fangs extended throughout his mouth until it was like staring into the mouth of a shark.
Most frightening though, were his eyes. No longer were they the familiar liquid gold of my British lover. They were molten, rolling, fiery pits that made me feel like I was staring straight into the mouth of Hell itself.
the midnight black, fire-eyed beast he had become. A hell-hound,
“Regina, love. Your eyes have turned black. What’s happening to you? Talk to me, please.”
Across the graveyard, the massive black form of River’s beast stepped out of the shadows of a tree, and I met his glowing, red eyes without hesitation. He was here for me, and on some level, I’d been waiting for him. River would never abandon me, no matter what darkness consumed either of us. He would help me in my quest, and when it was done... we would either be saved or damned.
Ever since I’d let the darkness in, it’d threatened to consume me completely. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted as hell, too… to just let go of that tiny scrap of humanity I still had floating around inside me.
“I was following you in the hope you’d lead me to Bride. She and I have a score to settle, but she’s just that little bit too slippery for me to find alone.
“Doctor Florsheim took a vial of my blood some months ago. He’s been using it to
experiment on soldiers, creating mutant, manufactured supernaturals. He’s frankly an easier target than my so-called mother, so I am disposing of him and all his creations first.
River was terrifying in his hellhound form, there was no disputing that. But he was still loyal to me, and for now that served my purposes perfectly.
Finn had grinned at me just like that after ripping a man’s heart from his chest.
“I’m a demon,”
“I’m Ursoc, he’s Ursol. Far as I know, we’re the last of our kind, and, no, not technically bears. We’re a druid-bear combo. Very old magic and not really known about these days.”
“Not sure about you, scary canary, but even a Prince of Hell can’t break through a door that thick.”
“Prince of Hell, huh? You telling me there is a crown hanging in your bedroom somewhere?”
“No, that would be my big brother. That fucker gets born two whole minutes before me and becomes a Prince, along with getting all...

Thankfully, the darkness had kept all dreams at bay, and I’d been spared any painful attempts from Wesley at trying to dreamscape me.
River and I were as close as two guys could be in a non-sexual way. Hell, even in a slightly sexual way when we knew it was a turn-on for whoever we were sleeping with.
“Sweetheart, you listen here, and you listen well. How dare you not think of us as family? How dare you think we would give up on you after only six weeks? I waited
three long-ass fucking years in another realm just to get back to you. Do you honestly think I would abandon you now?”
We’re going to do this together because alone we are strong, but together we’re invincible. Right?”
“Just slide that dick down our girl’s perfect throat. She can take it, can’t you, princess?”
“Lachlan is one of
five princes of Hell.
We need Lachlan, which means you and your surly brother need to work on a spell to break the dianoch bond. Currently Lachy is under a magic-induced coma, which prevents Bridget from accessing his magic. We cannot risk bringing him out until that bond is broken.”
“Jötunn. Frost giants.
“How long am I keeping this inside me?”
“Until you are so wet and desperate to be fucked, you can barely stand. Then you’ll come to me on your hands and knees and beg me to remove it... and replace it with something more satisfying. Understood?”
“Ye should have thought of that before sending my talented little spawn to break her mam’s bond, now shouldn’t you?”
Fenrir, my brother,
now that we have found you, we will stop at nothing to wreak vengeance on these insolent creatures who sought to hide you from us. None shall leave this realm alive, starting here...
