Melchizedek is what we would call a prophetic type of the Lord Jesus. Like Jesus, Melchizedek is both a king and a priest (the only two individuals in scripture of whom this is so). Melchizedek’s name means the “king of righteousness,” and he is the king of Salem (Jerusalem) which means “peace.” He is the king of righteousness and the king of peace.
