For so many communion is a time of self-examination that leads to shame and guilt – I am not good enough to come to this Table. But whilst there is a call to repentance, it is not a call to “make ourselves ready” or “make ourselves worthy”. Rather, it is acknowledging that I am a sinner that cannot change myself or make myself worthy, so I respond to the invitation of grace that allows me to dine with deity just as I am.
