And yet this broken, crippled man was ushered into the presence of the great king and invited to dine at his table. In this culture it was scandalous grace, reckless mercy. As we look at the broken legs of Mephibosheth we are reminded of our own brokenness. Life has broken all of us in some way. The fall of Mephibosheth as a child is a reminder that we are all fallen creatures, living in a fallen world.
